Lady Techsters Win Fourth WAC Title in Five Years

NAMPA, Idaho - The Lady Techsters scored 107 points on their second day of competition and completed a miracle come-back to win the 2009 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at Jackson Track in Nampa, Idaho, making it back-to-back championships and their fourth title in five years.

After the first day of competition the Techsters were sitting in last place with only 13 points, 46.5 points behind first place Idaho. After a number of outstanding performances and a couple of team sweeps of events, the Techsters found themselves just one point behind first place Idaho, trailing 111-110 with just the 4X400 relay remaining. The relay team of senior El Charrita Reynolds, junior Kamelia Story, sophomore Shante Benion and sophomore Monique Wright went on to win the relay by four seconds with a time of 3:43.07 and sealed a conference championship topping second place Idaho 120-114.

The men's team ended the conference championships with a fourth place finish, scoring 104 points nearly doubling the team's point total from last season's indoor championships.

In addition to the women's 4X400 relay team taking a first place finish, the men's 4X400 team of junior Wade McGaha, sophomore Demonte Willis, senior Mike Coleman and junior Albert Fullwood also finished first with a time of 3:14.36 seconds.

Coleman defended his 60m title with a first place finish and time of 6.75 seconds with sophomore Terry Carter finishing fourth in the event.



Coleman also took home a first place finish in the 200 with a time of 21.29 making it three individual titles for Coleman on the day helping him earn conference indoor performer of the year. Fullwood finished close behind Coleman in second place with a time of 21.42 seconds and Carter finished third.

Fullwood finished second in the 400 with a time of 47.81 with team mate Demonte Willis taking third place with a time of 48.20 seconds.

Senior Kinsey Dinnel took home a second place finish in the mile with a time of 4:13.29.

Sophomore Billy Walker finished second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.05 seconds.

Sophomore Jonathan Keys finished third in the triple jump with a jump of 50'4.50".

Sophomore Larry Jones finished third in the shot put with a throw of 63' 7.50".

The men's distance medley relay team of McGaha, Steven Cortez, Ladarrion Outley and Dinnel finished third with a time of 10:29.57.

On the women's side Chasidee Lewis- Baker took home the first place medal in the 60m with a time of 7.51 seconds with junior Antoinette Cobb finishing third.

The women went on to sweep the 200 with freshman Stacia Hanneman finishing first, Lewis-Baker second and sophomore Monique Wright in third. Hannemann also earned indoor freshman of the year.

The women also swept the 400 as Wright took first, Story second and Reynolds third.

Cobb took home first place in the 60m hurdles with a provisional qualifying time of 8.36 seconds.

Sophomore Quatisha Williams took second in the long jump with a jump of 19' 2.50".

Louisiana Tech, as a team, had 15 athletes earn first team All-WAC honors, seven men and eight women.

Louisiana Tech head coach Gary Stanley earned WAC women's indoor coach of the year honors.

Second Team All-WAC Honors-  Steven Cortez, Josh Harvey, Ladarrion Outley, Sapphira Brown, Tierah HallNancy Shelton and Whitney Smith.
