Holland, Jackson Finish in the top-15 at NCAA Championships

SACRAMENTO- Two Bulldogs finished in the top-15 in day one action at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Alex. G. Spanos Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Nolan Jackson posted a time of 14.02 in round one of the men’s 110-meter hurdles to advance to the semifinals. The Canton, Texas native then followed it up with a 13.97 in the semifinals but it was not fast enough to advance. Jackson ends up finished 12th at the NCAA Championships.

Johnathan Holland advanced to the semifinals in the men’s 100 meters. Holland clocked a 10.47 in round one to advance. Holland then posted a 10.52 in the semifinal to come in 13th while falling short of the finals.

Doria Appleberry just missed advancing to the semis in the 100-meter hurdles while finishing 19th. The senior will run in round one of her top event, the 400-meter hurdles, on Thursday. The WAC athlete of the year was one of two females to qualify in both the 100 and 400-meter hurdles.

Nina Gilbert just missed moving onto the semifinals in the 400 meters with a 53.67 on Wednesday to finish 17th.

Brenda-Grace Hunt had a bad day at the wrong time with a throw of 138-4 in the women’s javelin as she came up short in qualifying for the final. The junior was ranked No. 3 nationally coming into the NCAA Championships.

The women’s 1,600-meter relay team of Appleberry, Gilbert, Krystal Cole and Latonia Wilson will run in round one on Thursday.
