Tech Track and Field Completes First Day at Drake/Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Louisiana Tech's showing at the Penn Relays on Friday was highlighted by senior Phelecia Reynolds second place finish in the women's discus.
With Reynolds' heave of 171'8", she set a season best mark, shattering her previous best by eight feet.
Junior Larry Jones placed fifth in the men's discus championship with a toss of 172'3".
Tech's lone competitor on Thursday was Micarra Vassell. The freshman finished 12th in the women's shot put with a toss of 44'2.5" and 14th in the women's college discus with a throw of 135'2".
DES MOINES, Iowa - Louisiana Tech's women's 4x200m relay team ran a season-best time and placed third in the university division on Friday at the Drake Relays.
The Lady Techster's 4x100m relay team of Nancy Shelton, Quanisha Sales, Rakeisha Green and Chasidee Lewis-Baker qualified for the finals on Saturday in a time of 45.71. They finished third in Friday's preliminary heat.
In other preliminaries, Jesseka Jones tied her personal record in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.92. He qualified for Saturday's final with a seventh place finish. In the 110m hurdle prelims, Billy Ray Walker qualified for the finals with an eighth place finish and a time of 14.38.
Competition in Philadelphia, Pa. and Des Moines, Iowa resumes on Saturday.
