Alexander, Jones and Martin Receive Honor

RUSTON -- Louisiana Tech senior Nadia Alexander and sophomores Larry Jones and Justin Martin were named Student-Athletes of the Week on Monday, two days after they qualified for the NCAA Track and Field Regionals.

The three throwers qualified on Saturday at the Dr. Pepper Invitational held in Waco, Texas. To qualify for regionals, they needed to surpass a set distance during their respective events.

Alexander, from Kingston, Jamaica, won the women's shot put event over the weekend with a throw of 50'3.50." Jones, a native of Ruston, won the men's javelin and discus events with throws of 204'03" and 170'10" respectively. Martin, a product from Cedar Creek High School, placed third in the men's javelin, but qualified for regionals with a mark of 202'01."

The NCAA Regionals are set to take place in Louisville, Ky., on May 29.
