Tech Rounds Up Great Meet at LSU Relays
BATON ROUGE, La. -- After a stellar first day, the Louisiana Tech track and field squad topped themselves on their second day on Saturday, March 25, with multiple top-three finishes and regional qualifying marks.
“We had a heck of a day,” head coach Gary Stanley said. “We had a lot of great finishes. I’m really happy.”
Donesha Spivey had a wind legal first place finish and regional qualifying mark in the women’s 100 meter dash with a run of 11.55.
John Kent earned a second place finish and a regional qualifying mark after running 14.24 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles.
The women’s 4x200 team also got a second place finish with a run of 1:34.25 for a school record, while the men’s distance medley relay also finished second at 10:29.35. The women’s 4x100 earned Tech another second place finish at 46.20.
The nationally renowned women’s 4x400 team also got a second place finish with a time of 3:33.40 for a regional qualifying mark and the second fastest time in the nation another school record.
Jason Morgan had a collegiate first place finish in the men’s shot put with a throw of 56-10.75, while Matthew Craig finished second in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 47-09.00.
Louisiana Tech will be traveling to a meet with Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss., beginning Friday, March 31.
“This weekend was great for us,” Stanley said. “We have a stout couple of weeks ahead of us, and we feel confident.”
