May 30, 2009

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-- Senior Nadia Alexander and junior Kamelia Stroy led the way for the Lady Techsters as the two stars solidified their spot in the national championship in June as well as helping the Lady Techsters to a 12th place finish in the Mideast region Saturday at Card Park on the campus of the University of Louisville.

The Techsters tied with Notre Dame for 12th place in arguably the toughest region in the country. The women also finished ahead of such track powers as Mississippi State, Kentucky, Wisconsin and Ohio State.

"Overall I think we had a good meet," Tech head coach Gary Stanley said. "Kamelia (story) and Nadia (Alexander) each qualified for the national meet and we have a few others that just missed and could still receive an at large bid to the meet."

Alexander recorded the highest finished for the Techsters, finishing third in the shot put with a throw of 53' 7.75".

Stroy also had a top five finish with a fourth place finish in the women's 400 with a time of 53.14 seconds.

Monique Wright just missed the cut as the top five places receive automatic bids to the national meet and Wright finished sixth in the 400 with a time of 53.37 seconds. Wright could still receive an at large bid for the national meet.

Junior Antoinette Cobb recorded a solid sixth place finish in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 13.40 seconds. Like Wright, Cobb has a shot to receive an at large bid for nationals.

The women's 4X400 team of El Charrita Reynolds, Stroy, Lashannda Worthy and Wright finished sixth while topping the previous Card Park record by over a second along with the five teams that finished ahead of the Techsters with a time of 3:36.20.

Sophomore and Ruston native Larry Jones had an impressive meet, finishing 11th in both the discus and the javelin. Jones' discus throw was measured 174' 09" and his javelin throw was measured at 207' 1".

Junior Albert Fullwood just missed the finals, finishing ninth in the men's 400 with a time of 46.87 seconds.

Those who qualify to compete in the National Championship will travel to Fayetteville, Ark. On June 10 for the meet.
