RUSTON, La. - Gary Stanley, entering his 22nd year as head coach of the Louisiana Tech cross country and track programs, will open up the 2009 season this weekend when LA Tech hosts the Mook 4 Invitational.
Tulane, Southeastern Louisiana, Grambling State, Centenary and Northwestern State are among the teams competing against Louisiana Tech this weekend. The action, hosted at Lincoln Parrish Park, will begin at 9 a.m.
Along with the start of the season comes the 2009 cross country schedule, set to challenge a pair of young teams this year.
Both the men's and women's teams will open the season at the Mook 4 Invitational before the men go to Starkville, Miss. on Sept. 19 to compete in the Mississippi State Invitational. Both teams then hit the trails again on Sept. 28 at the Northwestern State Invitational in Natchitoches, La. That will mark the last combined competition until the WAC Championships.
The women's team will run in the Centenary Invitational on Oct. 3 in Shreveport while the men will travel to Clinton, Miss. for the Bud Watson Invitational on Oct. 10. The women's team will then make the trip to Clinton, Miss. to compete in the Choctaw Open on Oct. 17.
Rounding out the 2009 season will be the WAC Championships on Halloween, Oct. 31. This year's WAC Championships will be held in Reno Nevada.
