Cross Country Preparing for Conference Championships

Oct. 31, 2008

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- After being idle for two weeks, the Louisiana Tech cross country teams return to action Saturday, Nov. 1, with the women's race beginning at 11 a.m. and the men's race beginning at 10:45 a.m.

"It will be a big challenge for us," Tech head coach Gary Stanley said. "It is a very tough course and obviously altitude is a huge element in an endurance event. We will go as hard as we can four as long as we can."

Tech was picked to finish fifth in the men's pre-championship poll while the women were tabbed ninth.

The Bulldogs have not competed since Oct. 18, where Tech placed 12th overall out of 29 teams in the 2008 Chile Pepper Festival.

Senior Kinsey Dinnel again led the way for the Bulldogs with an overall 29th place finish after running a time of 30 minutes, 29 second. Senior Zac Schuler took 78th place at 31:47, while senior Nate Davis finished 105 at 32:25. A total of 257 runners competed in the race.

Sophomore John Ramstad ran 32:49 for 120 overall, while sophomore David Monroe ran 33:32 for 153 overall and sophomore Chico Cortez ran 33:40 for 159 overall.

Sophomore Kyle Davis placed 171 at 34:00, while freshman Josh Slocum rounded out Tech's finishers with a 176th place and a time of 34:06.

The women will also be in action for the time in two weeks after competing at a race at Mississippi College on the same weekend.

The race will be run at the New Mexico State Golf Course. Last season, Utah State won the men's title while Idaho captured the women's.
