DENTON, Texas -- With Louisiana Tech clinging to a two-point lead in the final minutes of Saturday's Conference USA game at North Texas, the Lady Techsters turned to a pair of freshmen to seal the victory.

Anna McLeod and Daria McCutcheon combined to score nine straight points during a 90 second span and sophomore Kierra Anthony recorded a steal and hit four straight free throws lifting Louisiana Tech to a 72-65 win over North Texas before 1,098 fans at the Super Pit in a game that saw 11 ties and 17 lead changes.

The victory completed a two-game conference road sweep for the Lady Techsters, the first since the 2014-15 season. Tech defeated Rice Thursday night in Houston.

"We shot the ball well from the field and from the free throw line and we needed every one of them," said head coach Brooke Stoehr. "And we did it against a team that I think is pretty good defensively. If we can just learn how to cut down on our turnovers, we can take another step forward. I'm proud of how hard we competed and the fact for the second straight game we found a way to win a close game."

With Tech (9-9, 4-3 C-USA) trailing 57-53 after a North Texas bucket with 5:34 to play in the game, McCutcheon knocked down a jumper on Tech's next possession to ignite a game-ending 19-8 run. After Jasmine LeBlanc tied that game at 57-57 on two free throws, Anthony stole the ball and outraced the North Texas defenders for the go-ahead layup at the 3:30 mark.

McLeod then got into the action, recording a steal on the defensive end and then draining the second of her three three-pointers to increase the Tech advantage to 62-57. Terriell Bradley, who led North Texas with 19 points, stopped the 9-0 run with a bucket with 2:45 to play.

"It took every one of us tonight," said Stoehr. "Opportunities presented themselves for some of our younger players and they came through. I'm proud of Anna and Daria. They made some big shots late in the game that were so big for us."

However, McCutcheon would answer for Tech. The Plano, Texas native playing in front of family and friends hit an acrobatic shot off the glass while drawing the fifth foul on Bradley. McCutcheon hit the free throw to complete the conventional three-point play and push the lead to 65-59.

North Texas rallied, scoring four straight points including the sixth three-pointer of the game by Candice Adams as Tech's lead was cut to 65-63 with 1:50 to play. On Tech's ensuing possession, the shot clock was down inside five seconds when McLeod drained a long three-pointer out of the far corner, upping the lead back to five with 1:20 remaining.

Following two free throws by the Mean Green and a turnover by Tech, North Texas had a chance to tie the game with less than 25 seconds to play. However, Anthony stepped in front of a pass, recording her third steal of the game and NT was forced to foul. Anthony hit 4-of-4 free throws in the final 20 seconds to seal the victory.

Anthony finished with 19 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists while LeBlanc added 17 points and eight rebounds. McLeod finished with a career-high 11 points.

Tech shot 52 percent (23-44) from the field, 4-of-8 from the three-point line and 22-of-28 from the free throw line. North Texas hit 44 percent (22-50) from the field, 7-of-22 from the three-point line and 14-of-18 from the free throw line.

Tara Ellison and Bradley led North Texas with 19 points each while Adams added 18 points.

Tech outscored North Texas 31-20 on points off of turnovers while the Lady Techsters bench outscored the Mean Green bench 28-4.

The Lady Techsters return home to host UAB Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the TAC.
