RUSTON - Lady Techster head coach Teresa Weatherspoon announced Tuesday that former Cedar Creek High School all-state honoree Kadee Malone has transferred to Louisiana Tech and will be joining the team this winter.
Malone, daughter of former Tech All-American and NBA legend Karl Malone, transfers to Louisiana Tech from Tyler Junior College where she wasn't playing basketball. Due to NCAA transfer rules, Malone will have to sit out this year but will be eligible to play starting in the winter quarter of next season.
"I'm glad Kadee decided to join us," Weatherspoon said. "There is a huge Malone tradition at Louisiana Tech, but this is a young lady who is focused on creating her own; making a name for herself. As hard as she is going to work, I know she will have success."
The 6-foot-1-inch forward lettered four years at Cedar Creek High School where she helped lead the Cougars to the state playoffs all four years, including a quarterfinal appearance as a senior. During her senior season at the Ruston-based high school, Malone averaged 18.1 points, 12.2 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game while earning all-state, all-district, all-area and all-Northeast Louisiana honors.
"She is a very coachable young lady who is looking to find her role," Weatherspoon said. "I've known her since she was little. She wants to be a part of this program and help out. She loves to bang. She's powerful, aggressive and runs the floor well. She possesses leadership qualities. "
Malone will have four years of eligibility remaining.
