@LATechWBB Faces Florida Atlantic Saturday Night
Jan. 19, 2018
BOCA RATON, Fla. – For the second straight Conference USA road trip, Louisiana Tech enters the second leg looking to salvage a split as the Lady Techsters face Florida Atlantic Saturday night at 6 p.m. CT at FAU Arena.
Both teams are coming off losses Thursday. Tech (12-6, 3-2 C-USA) fell at FIU 57-54 while Florida Atlantic (8-7, 2-2 C-USA) lost 75-70 at UTEP.
The contest can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on KNBB 97.7 FM and KTKC 92.9 while fans can also access the audio through the Louisiana Tech X mobile app. Fans can also watch a live video stream of the game through a paid subscription to CUSATV.com.
Some good news for head coach Brooke Stoehr’s team is the fact the Lady Techsters are 2-0 on the back-end of two-game weekend series so far this year. Tech defeated both UTSA and Marshall in the second games of league series and will try to make it three straight against the Owls.
In order to do so, Tech must find its offensive touch. In the last three games – all on the road – Tech has shot a combined 33 percent (58-176) from the field with its best outing coming in a 74-65 win at Marshall when the Lady Techsters hit 38 percent. Tech shot 26 percent in a loss to Southern Miss and 33 percent in the loss to FIU.
Alexus Malone was Tech’s lone bright spot in the loss to FIU, recording her fourth double double of the year with 18 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. Malone hit 8-of-10 field goals while the rest of the team connected on only 13-of-53.
Defensively, Tech held FIU to 57 points, but defensive breakdowns mid-way through the third quarter allowed FIU to rally from an 11-point deficit to take a one-point lead at the end of the quarter. Tech also sent the Golden Panthers to the free throw line 24 times, including 15 times in the decisive fourth quarter.
Florida Atlantic brings one of the top offensive teams into the game as the Owls are averaging 71 points per game despite shooting only 37 percent from the field.
Sasha Cedeno (17.8 ppg, 8.4 rpg), Tyana Robinson (11.5 ppg, 33-94 three-pointers) and Danneal Ford (11.3 ppg, 66 assists) lead the Owls offensively. FAU is one of the top three-point shooting teams in Conference USA, averaging more than eight makes per game.
Tech leads the all-time series against Florida Atlantic 6-0, including last year’s 76-52 win in Boca Raton last year.
