@LATechWBB, UTEP Square Off at Don Haskins Center
Feb. 9, 2018
EL PASO, Texas -- Coming off one of its most impressive wins of the season, Louisiana Tech hits the road Saturday for a 2 p.m. Conference USA showdown against UTEP at the Don Haskins Center.
Tech (15-9, 6-5 C-USA) is currently in seventh place in the C-USA standings but is only a game out of fourth place. The top four teams in the standings will earn a bye in the first day of the C-USA Tournament. UTEP (14-8, 5-4 C-USA) is in a three-way tie for fifth place just percentage points ahead of LA Tech.
The contest can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on KNBB 97.7 FM and KTKC 92.9 FM with the pregame show starting at 1:30 p.m. Free audio can be accessed through the Louisiana Tech X mobile app while a live video stream is available with a paid subscription to CUSATV.com.
Rebounding could be the name of the game as UTEP enters the contest as the top rebounding team in the league with a plus 7 rebound margin led by post player Tamra Seda (14.5 ppg, 9.5 rpg), Jordan Alexander (7.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg) and Najala Howell (13.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg).
It is the lone meeting on the year between the programs, with the Miners vying for back-to-back league wins for the first time this season. UTEP has been idle since toppling UTSA, 66-53, on the road on Feb. 4. The Miners are 7-3 at home on the year, including 2-2 in C-USA action.
The Lady Techsters played a complete game in its win over Rice Wednesday, shooting over 60 percent from the field, recording 24 assists to 12 turnovers, and forcing 20 Rice turnovers that led to 31 points.
Kierra Anthony (13.5 ppg) has been on a recent tear, averaging over 19 points per game in her last four outings, including a pair of 20-point performances. Alexus Malone (13.4 ppg, 8.8 rpg) continues to shine in the post for Tech, leading the Lady Techsters with four double doubles this season.
Taylor Stahly hit four more three-pointers in the win over Rice, giving her 66 on the season and at least one in all 24 games. At her current pace, Stahly is threatening former Techster Aarica Ray-Boyd's single season record of 86 three-pointers made.
Tech leads the all-time series against UTEP 11-6, although Tech is only 4-5 in El Paso.
