@LATechWBB DeMoss to Be Inducted Into Women’s Basketball HOF

Feb. 13, 2018

RUSTON – Former Louisiana Tech player and coach Mickie DeMoss is one of seven individuals that will be inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame this summer, announced the organization on Monday night.

She becomes the ninth member of the Louisiana Tech Lady Techster basketball family tree to earn the honor, joining Kim Mulkey (2000), Leon Barmore (2003), Janice Lawrence-Braxton (2006), Pam Kelly (2007), Sonja Hogg (2009), Teresa Weatherspoon (2010), Gary Blair (2013) and Kurt Budke (2015).

DeMoss will be joined in the class by former players Chamique Holdsclaw (Tennessee/WNBA), Katie Smith (Ohio State/WNBA) and Tina Thompson (USC/WNBA), as well as Chris Dailey (contributor-assistant coach, UConn), Rose Marie Battaglia (veteran high school coach) and Ceal Barry (head coach, Colorado).

DeMoss and Dailey are the first inductees in the contributor-assistant coach category.

The native of Tallulah was the first ever point guard in the Lady Techster basketball program history, playing for three years for coach Sonja Hogg – also a member of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

She has an impressive resume that includes two seasons as the associate head coach at Louisiana Tech, 20 seasons as an assistant and associate head coach under Pat Summitt at Tennessee, four seasons as head coach at Kentucky and a two-year stint as an assistant with the WNBA’s Indiana Fever.

Prior to joining the Tennessee staff in 1985, DeMoss had been an assistant coach at Auburn University (1983-85), a head coach at the University of Florida (1979-83) and an assistant at Memphis State (1977-79).

DeMoss received her undergraduate degree in physical education from Louisiana Tech University in 1977, where she starred at point guard. She then received her master's degree in education at Memphis State University in 1979.

The Class of 2018 will be introduced at the Women’s Final Four in Columbus, Ohio, and formally inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 9.
