LAS VEGAS, Nevada - Louisiana Tech will open Western Athletic Conference Tournament play Wednesday when the No. 5 seed Lady Techsters face the No. 4 seed UTSA Roadrunners at 10:30 p.m. CT at the Orleans Arena.

Louisiana Tech (13-16, 9-9 WAC) will be looking for its sixth WAC Tournament title in the last 12 years as it participates in its final event as a member of the league before joining Conference USA next season.

UTSA (16-13, 10-8) is competing in its first and last WAC Tournament as the Roadrunners joined the league this year after being a member of the Southland Conference. Following this season, UTSA will join LA Tech in the move to C-USA.

The two teams split the regular season series with each winning on the other's home floor. UTSA defeated the Lady Techsters 51-50 on a last second shot by Kamra King at the Thomas Assembly Center on Jan. 12. LA Tech returned the favor on Feb. 7 when it defeated UTSA 79-73 in San Antonio behind the 45-point effort of Kelia Shelton, who was dismissed from the team a week ago.

UTSA has won with defense this year, leading the WAC in scoring defense (56.7 ppg), field goal percentage defense (.372) and turnover margin (+3.45). The Roadrunners roster doesn't boast a single double digit scorer as sophomore guard Kamra King is the team's leading scorer at 9.0 points per contest.

"They are a very, very solid defensive team," said Tech head coach Teresa Weatherspoon. "They make it extremely tough on you to score. We must do a good job of taking care of the basketball and executing in a half court set. We also have to do a better job on the boards then we did the last time we played them.

"It's do or die time for us. We know that. Our kids know that. If we want to keep our season alive we have to continue to play with the same intensity and energy that we had against Denver (Saturday night). That's the team that needs to show up this week."

LA Tech is 54-9 all-time in conference tournament games, including a 22-6 mark in the WAC Tournament. The Lady Techsters have captured 16 tournament titles in 25 years with the last one coming in 2010 with a 68-66 victory over Fresno State in Reno.

Tech is 17-1 all-time in quarterfinal games with the lone loss coming to New Mexico State in Las Cruces in 2007.
