Techsters Set to Depart Friday

RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech conducted its next to last practice in Ruston Thursday afternoon before the Lady Techsters depart Friday for Storrs, Connecticut, where they will open the 2005 NCAA Tournament Sunday at 11 a.m. against Temple.

Head coach Kurt Budke put his team through a two-hour workout Thursday at the Thomas Assembly Center in preparation for his team’s opening round contest against the 27-3 Owls coached by Dawn Staley.

“We’ve had two good days of practice,” Budke said. “The kids are really focused on the game plan and what it will take to give ourselves a chance Sunday. Temple is a very impressive team. Anyone who can beat Rutgers and play Tennessee down to the wire in Knoxville is legitimate. It will be a challenge.”

Budke said the Techsters would practice again Friday morning before departing the Thomas Assembly Center at 10 a.m. to head to Monroe Regional Airport where the team will depart on a charter flight at noon for Storrs.

Saturday all eight teams that will be competing at Gampel Pavilion will each have an hour long open practice session and 30-minute news conference. Budke and selected players will face the media at 11:20 a.m. EST before taking the floor at noon Saturday.

Sunday’s contest between Louisiana Tech and Temple will be televised regionally on ESPN2 and nationally on ESPNU.
