Anthony, Malone Earn All-State Honors

RUSTON – A pair of Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters earned spots on the all-state team as sophomore Kierra Anthony was named second team and junior Alexus Malone was named third team by a vote of the state media and sports information directors.

LSU junior guard Raigyne Moncrief was voted the Player of the Year while teammate Chloe Jackson was named Newcomer of the Year. Southeastern Louisiana guard Charliee Dugas earned the Freshman of the Year and Loyola of New Orleans coach Kellie Kennedy was tabbed the Coach of the Year.

Anthony picked up second team all-state honors following a season that saw her average 13.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 42 percent from the field and 53-of-127 from the three-point line. The 2nd Team All-Conference USA honoree and 2-time LSWA Player of the Week posted 23 double digit scoring games and led team in scoring 12 times.

She had six 20-plus point performances and ranked No. 2 in C-USA in 3-pt FG percentage, No. 14 in scoring, and No. 14 in steals. She scored 23 points in a win over Marshall and a home loss to Middle Tennessee and 21 in an overtime road win at Rice. Anthony scored 23 points vs. LSU, 15 vs. Clemson and 14 vs. Auburn.

Malone earned third team honors after averaging 11.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 55 percent from the field and 78 percent from the free throw line. She recorded 20 double digit scoring games, including four 20-plus point performances.

The Oxford, Miss native registered five double doubles and ranked No. 2 in C-USA in FG percentage (55) and No. 9 in rebounding, No. 9 in offensive rebounding, No. 10 in FT percentage and No. 11 in blocks. She scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in Tech’s 80-54 win over Charlotte, snapping the 49ers 9-game winning streak. She recorded double doubles vs. Charlotte (twice), UTSA, Florida Atlantic and North Texas.
