Frazier Named All-State Third Team

RUSTON - Louisiana Tech sophomore forward Whitney Frazier earned third team all-state honors and senior Brittany Lewis and freshman Lulu Perry earned honorable mention accolades on the Louisiana Sports Writers Associaton Women's Basketball Team released this weekend.

LSU forward Theresa Plaisance, guard Danielle Ballard and coach Nikki Caldwell led the Tigers to the Sweet 16 of the 2013 NCAA Tournament and all three were honored as they were named the LSWA State Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year.

Joining the three-some on the list of specialty awards was Grambling State guard Joanna Miller, who was named the state Newcomer of the Year.

Frazier, who was named the LSWA State Freshman of the Year last season, earned her award after averaging 11.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game this season while shooting 41 percent from the field and 68 percent from the free throw line. The El Dorado, Arkansas native also earned second team all-Western Athletic Conference honors this season as well after scoring in double figures 20 times and recording double digit rebounds four times. She scored a season-high 21 points against Oral Roberts and Utah State.

Lewis earned honorable mention accolades after averaging 11.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game while shooting 51 percent from the field and 65 percent from the free throw line. The Orange Park, Florida native also earned third team all-WAC honors after scoring in double figures 19 times and registering five double doubles. She scored a season-high 24 points in a loss to Utah State.

Perry was voted honorable mention all-state after averaging 10.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 34 percent from the field and 72 percent from the free throw line. The Benton native also earned WAC all-Freshman team honors this year after scoring in double figures 16 times, including a career-high 23 points in a loss to WAC regular season champion Seattle.
