Techsters Honored at Basketball Banquet
RUSTON – Senior guard Tasha Williams was named the Most Valuable Player by the Louisiana Tech coaching staff Tuesday night at the annual Lady Techster post-season banquet.
In addition to her MVP Award, Williams also received the Academic Award for her work in the classroom.
Williams – who was named first team All-Western Athletic Conference and first team All-Louisiana by the LSWA –averaged 12.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.8 steals per game, leading the Lady Techsters to a 26-5 mark and the program’s 25th straight NCAA Tournament.
The Kingsland, Ark., was named the MVP of the WAC Tournament and shot 43 percent from the field and 79 percent from the free throw line for the year.
Senior guard Aarica Ray-Boyd earned the Offensive Player of the Year Award at the banquet after averaging 14.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game for Tech. The second team All-WAC and first team All-Louisiana performer set a Louisiana Tech record with 86 three-pointers made while shooting 39 percent from the field and 37 percent from the three-point line.
Junior forward Ty Moore took home two pieces of hardwood earning the Defensive Player of the Year Award and the Rebounding Award.
Moore averaged 10.8 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game while hitting 50 percent of her field goals and 60 percent of her free throws. The Shreveport, La., native led Tech with 11 double doubles on the season. She ranked second in the WAC in rebounding and fifth in blocked shots.
Freshman Eboni Mangum earned the Lady Techster Award, which is presented annually to the player that best exemplifies the characteristics and qualities of a true student-athlete on and off the court.
Freshman guard Quantae Thomas won the Most Improved Player Award. Thomas saw her playing time increase throughout the season and ended the year by averaging 2.7 points and 2.2 rebounds. After starting the season by hitting just 2 of 10 free throws, Thomas connected on 23 of her final 26 during the year.
