@LATechWBB Adds JUCO All-American Guard
April 26, 2017
RUSTON -- Louisiana Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr announced Wednesday that Northeastern Oklahoma A&M All-American guard Maria Delgado has signed a national letter of intent to play the next two years for the Lady Techsters.
"It is great to welcome Maria to the Louisiana Tech family," said Stoehr. "She will bring experience and an ability to create for others as well as score the basketball. Maria comes from a winning program and is a tough competitor. She reached the NJCAA National Tournament under Coach Jim Rowland and has continued to develop during her time in Oklahoma."
The Bucaramango, Colombia native spent the past two years playing for Northeastern Oklahoma A&M where she led the program to back-to-back Region 2 championships and a combined record of 57-6. As a sophomore she averaged 15.9 points, 2.5 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting 46 percent from the field, 38 percent from the three-point line and 75 percent from the free throw line. She hit 85 three-pointers as a sophomore.
"I decided on Louisiana Tech because they have good academic and women's basketball programs," said Delgado. "I admire and respect the coaches. It felt like home when I took my visit, and I am sure that this was the best decision and that I will be in good hands."
Delgado was named a National Junior College Athletic Association All-American this past year while being a two-time first team all-Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference honoree and a two-time first team All-Region II recipient.
"Maria is a great scorer and shooter," said Rowland. "She was our leading scorer both years. She is great at getting to the rim and she loves contact. She's a true competitor and not afraid to take the big shot. Maria is a great kid and hard worker. She is the type of player that I would have loved to have coached for four years."
Delgado joins a Louisiana Tech recruiting class that includes guard Taylor Stahly, forward Zhanae Whitney, guard Raizel Guinto, forward Macaela Crone and forward MaKayla Johnson.
