@LATechWBB Signs Texas Prep Guard

May 2, 2017

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr announced the seventh and final piece of her 2017 recruiting class on Tuesday as Mansfield Summit guard Amber Dixon signed a national letter of intent to play for the Lady Techsters.

“We are excited to announce the addition of Amber to our Louisiana Tech family,” said Stoehr. “She will bring an ability to play off the dribble as well as create for others. Amber will add good size and athleticism on the perimeter for our team. We are looking forward to her being a Lady Techster.”

Dixon is a 5-foot-9-inch guard who lettered four years for coach Dawn Mailloux-Smith at Mansfield Summit High School in Texas. Dixon missed all of her sophomore season with a knee injury and the final third of her junior year with a second knee injury but rebounded from both injuries to earn the District 10-5A Player of the Year honor as a senior.

“As a player, Amber has great court vision,” said Mailloux-Smith. “She involves her teammates, making everyone around her better. She has a great ability to get to the basket. She is just very coachable. You rarely see her without a smile on her face. Amber is so friendly and gets along with everyone. She has the ability to make people feel good. Even during the hard times with the knee injuries, she managed to keep a great disposition and outlook.”

Dixon averaged 10.8 points, 5.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game as a senior and shot 39 percent from field and 70 percent from free throw line while leading Summit to a 26-8 record. She earned Texas Association of Basketball Coaches all-region honors and Texas Girls Coaches Association all-state accolades as a senior.

“I believe Louisiana Tech is the right choice for me,” said Dixon. “The basketball program is so family-oriented and just being on campus made me feel like I was at home. The coaching staff seemed eager to take my game to the next level and that’s something I’m looking forward to doing.”

Dixon joins a Louisiana Tech recruiting class that includes guards Taylor Stahly, Maria Delgado and Raizel Guinto and forwards Zhanae Whitney, Macaela Crone and MaKayla Johnson.
