RUSTON - Louisiana Tech basketball fans young and old will have an opportunity to enjoy a night filled with haunts and hoops as the annual Bulldog and Lady Techster Basketball Bonanza will be held this year in conjunction with the 14th annual student athlete sponsored Halloween Carnival.
This year's events are set for Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the Thomas Assembly Center as the night will begin at 6 p.m. with the 14th annual Louisiana Tech Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's (SAAC) Halloween Carnival which will take place on the concourse of the arena.
The SAAC Halloween Carnival is an event that is geared towards giving local youngsters a safe environment to dress up in their Halloween costumes as Tech student-athletes and spirit squad members will set up "fun booths" where they will play games and give away free candy. Admission to the event is a jar of peanut butter or jelly which will be donated to the local chapter of Christian Community Action.
Starting at 7 p.m. the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters will take to the court as Tech fans will meet the players and coaches for this year's teams. The hour-long event will include a skills challenge, three-point competition and dunk contest (both men and women) along with team drills and additional off-the-court entertainment provided by the players.
Free pizza will be provided for Louisiana Tech students in attendance while supplies last. Jim Robken and the world-renowned Tech Hoop Troop will be in attendance along with performances by the Tech cheerleaders and Regal Blues. Champ will also make an appearance.
Teresa Weatherspoon and the Lady Techsters are coming off a season that saw the program record its 37th straight winning season and advance to the championship game of the WAC Tournament. Tech returns six letter-winners and welcomes seven newcomers to the roster this year.
Michael White and the Bulldogs recorded a winning season and made an improbable run through the WAC Tournament defeating defending champion Utah State and regular season champion Nevada before falling in the WAC title game. The Bulldogs return nine letterwinners and welcome four newcomers this year.
