RUSTON - Louisiana Tech will host its only exhibition game of the year when the Lady Techsters face Mississippi College Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Head coach Teresa Weatherspoon's team returns six letterwinners - only one starter - from last year's squad that posted a 17-15 record while reaching the championship game of the 2012 Western Athletic Conference Tournament before falling to Fresno State.
Tech welcomes seven newcomers to the roster, including two Division I transfers, three junior college transfers and two high school prep stars and Weatherspoon said she expects some growing pains.
"We know it will take some time to find the chemistry we will need to be successful," Weatherspoon said. "We had a closed scrimmage last weekend and there were plenty of areas that we need to work on as a team. We've had a week to practice and this will give us another chance to compete against someone else.
"I think we have some talented players, and I want to see us progress throughout the non-conference schedule as we prepare for WAC play in late December. There will be some ups and some downs. However, as long as our kids continue to work hard every day, I am confident in our ability."
Sophomore Whitney Frazier is the lone returning starter from last year as the preseason first team all-conference selection averaged 9.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game as a rookie.
Mississippi College was 16-9 last year and has been picked to finish third in the American Southwest Conference East Division this season. Head coach Paul Allen Duke has an experienced squad that includes nine seniors.
Admission to the contest is free.
There will be no radio broadcast or internet stream of the game, but fans can follow the action on Gametracker at www.LATechSports.com and via Twitter at @LATechWBB.
