STARKVILLE, Miss. - Louisiana Tech will face its second straight Southeastern Conference foe Friday night when the Lady Techsters face Mississippi State at 7 p.m. at Humphrey Coliseum.
The Lady Techsters (0-2) are coming off a loss at home against South Carolina on Monday in a game that saw freshman Lulu Perry score a team-high 16 points in the setback.
Through the first two games of the season, Tech boasts three players averaging double figures led by junior forward Tavasha Anderson (12.0 ppg), Perry (11.5 ppg) and senior forward Brittany Lewis (11.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg).
As a team, Tech is averaging only 58.5 points per game and shooting 39 percent from the field and only 3-of-21 from the three-point line. Its opponents are averaging 74.0 points per game and shooting 46 percent from the field.
Mississippi State (1-1) defeated Houston in its season opener before falling to perennial NCAA Tournament foe Hampton in its last outing. The Bulldogs are led by sophomore center Martha Awal who is averaging 18.0 points, 13.5 rebounds and 5.5 blocks per game while hitting 20-of-22 free throws.
As a team the Bulldogs have also been solid on defense early in the season, holding opponents to 32.8-percent from the field, the second-lowest percentage in the conference.
This will be the 13th meeting ever between LA Tech and Mississippi State with the Lady Techsters leading the series 7-5, including two straight victories. Tech defeated the Bulldogs 63-62 in Ruston last year.
