@LATechWBB Faces Niagara Sunday

Nov. 25, 2017

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – After registering one of its best wins in recent years in a complete performance against Penn State on Friday, Louisiana Tech head coach Brooke Stoehr and Co. find itself in a totally different role heading into Sunday’s 1 p.m. tipoff against Niagara.

The contest can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on KNBB 97.7 FM and on the Louisiana Tech X mobile app as the Lady Techsters (4-1) and Purple Eagles (0-5) meet for the first time ever in women’s basketball.

After entering the Penn State game in an underdog role before pulling out the impressive 71-59 win, LA Tech will switch roles as the favorite against a winless Niagara team. Stoehr knows that her team has to come out with the same energy and effort that it did in the win over Penn State.

“We can’t look at their record,” said Stoehr. “We watched them play down to the wire with UL-Lafayette. They played extremely hard, and I expect they will come out tomorrow and play the same way. We have to focus on getting better as a team. We did a lot of good things (against Penn State), but we still have a long way to go.

“It was a big win for us, but it was just the fifth game of the season. This is a good chance for us to execute a game plan against a team with a short preparation period. Our win Friday night means nothing when we tipoff of Sunday. It’s a brand new game.”

Niagara has lost games against Maryland, St. Bonaventure, Saint Josephs, Oakland and UL-Lafayette thus far this season. The Purple Eagles are led offensively by Victoria Rampado (15.5 ppg, 7.0 rpg), Kaylee Stroemple (11.3 ppg, 6.8 rpg) and Jamie Sherburne (9.0 ppg, 3.0 apg).

Tech counters with a balance offensive attack led by Kierra Anthony (14.4 ppg), Alexus Malone (12.2 ppg, 8.6 rpg) and Taylor Stahly (11.8 ppg, 15-33 three-pointers). The Lady Techsters shot a season-high 52 percent from the field in its win over Penn State while holding the Nittany Lions to almost 20 points below their scoring average.
