RUSTON - Louisiana Tech hopes to continue a winning trend a home when the Lady Techsters host UALR Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Tech (3-7) has won its last three games on its home floor by an average margin of 27.0 points per game with victories over Northwestern State, UL-Lafayette and New Orleans. After dropping its first two home contests of the year to LSU and Arkansas State, Tech has turned up the defensive intensity at the TAC allowing only 41.0 points per game in those three wins.
Although the road has been more of a challenge for Tech, which has dropped all five of its away games this year following a 63-51 loss at McNeese State Tuesday, head coach Teresa Weatherspoon and Co. hope to continue their recent impressive play in Ruston.
Tech continues to boast four players averaging double figures led by junior forward Whitney Frazier (15.5 ppg, 8.5 rpg), junior guard Chrisstasia Walter (13.6 ppg, 5.7 rpg), freshman guard JaQuan Jackson (13.4 ppg, 3.3 rpg) and sophomore guard Lulu Perry (10.3 ppg, 4.1 rpg).
In addition, sophomore forward Veanca Hall has started to show signs of becoming more of an every night contributor as the Monroe native scored a career-high 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds in Tuesday's game against the Cowgirls.
UALR (4-4) is learning what life without All-American Chastity Reed is like. The Trojans top player for the past four years graduated following last season thus leaving a void in the UALR offensive stat sheet.
UALR has posted wins over Sam Houston State, Memphis, Oral Roberts and Incarnate Word while its losses have come to LSU, Texas, Southern Miss and Missouri State.
Taylor Gault (13.0 ppg, 1.9 rpg), Kiera Clark (11.3 ppg, 4.9 rpg) and Shanity James (10.3 ppg, 5.4 rpg) are the top offensive threats for the Trojans, who are members of the Sun Belt Conference.
Tech leads the all-time series against UALR 7-3, including a 5-0 record in Ruston. UALR won last year's meeting in Little Rock 74-52.
