Techster SOS Ranks Top 10 in Nation
RUSTON – Louisiana Tech head coach Chris Long knew prior to the season that his team would be tested during the non-conference portion of its schedule as the Lady Techsters were set to play nine of their 11 games against teams who had participated in the postseason last year.
Long was right. Through all games played as of Dec. 19, Louisiana Tech’s strength of schedule was ranked eighth toughest in the country behind only Old Dominion, Texas, New Mexico, Connecticut, TCU, North Carolina State and George Washington.
“We wanted to get ourselves as prepared as possible for conference play,” Long said. “We’ve talked all fall about getting mentally and physically tougher … so we can win the close games that we lost last year. I knew this schedule wouldn’t be easy and it hasn’t, but it has tested us and made us better.”
Entering Tuesday night’s battle against 24th ranked Ole Miss, Tech was also ranked 22nd in the country by Collegerpi.com, thanks in large part to its strength of schedule.
Tech has already faced No. 1 Tennessee, No. 10 Western Kentucky and No. 34 Kansas State – all on the road – with upcoming games against No. 63 Ole Miss and No. 57 Arkansas State still on the slate.
The Techsters open Western Athletic Conference play Jan. 5 when they host Boise State at the Thomas Assembly Center.
