Anthony, Stahly Lead @LATechWBB to Big Win

Anthony scored 21 points and Stahly added a career-high 19 points to lead Louisiana Tech to an 85-62 victory over Houston Baptist Thursday night at the Thomas Assembly Center.
The victory was the fourth straight for Tech (8-4) which will play its final non-conference contest Dec. 29 against Alcorn State before opening Conference USA play Jan. 3.
Anthony and Stahly combined to hit eight of Tech’s season-high 10 three-pointers as the duo shot 14-of-25 from the field, including 8-of-17 from the three-point line.
Malone and Whitney still played a part in the 23-point victory. Whitney scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Malone added 10 points and eight boards in just 16 minutes.
Head coach Brooke Stoehr’s team came out of the gate strong defensively, holding Houston Baptist (4-6) to only seven first quarter points. Tech led 11-7 after the opening 10 minutes despite shooting just 28 percent in the frame.
LA Tech’s full court press ignited a second and third quarter surge. The Lady Techsters outscored HBU 30-12 in the second quarter and 31-19 in the third quarter to take a 72-38 lead through 30 minutes of action. Tech held as much as a 40-point advantage at 65-25 with just over three minutes to play in the third quarter.
Tech forced eight first quarter turnovers, 10 more in the second quarter and seven more in the third quarter as the Lady Techsters recorded 15 steals and scored 31 points off of turnovers in the contest.
Stoehr rested her starters for the last few minutes of the third quarter and the entire fourth quarter as HBU was able to outscore the Tech reserves 24-13 over the final 10 minutes of action.
Veronika Kirienko led HBU with 17 points and 12 rebounds and Sophie Taylor chipped in with 15 points.
For the game, Tech shot 39 percent (25-65) from the field, 10-of-27 from the three-point line and 25-of-32 from the free throw line. HBU shot 39 percent (20-51) from the field, 1-of-6 from the three-point line and 21-of-31 from the stripe.
Tech outrebounded HBU 44-39, including 21 offensive rebounds.
