COLLEGE STATION - Having won four of its last five games, Louisiana Tech will play its fourth Southeastern Conference opponent of the season when the Lady Techsters face Texas A&M Saturday at 7 p.m. at Reed Coliseum.
Tech (5-7) has won five straight games in Ruston, including an 81-51 victory over Alabama A&M in its last game prior to Christmas. However, the Lady Techsters haven't had as much success on the road falling in all five of its games played away from the Thomas Assembly Center.
Trying to crack the win column on the road against the Aggies (7-4) won't be easy as Texas A&M has won all four of its home games this season by an average of 31.0 points per game.
Texas A&M is one of the top defensive teams in the nation as the Aggies are holding their opponents to only 55.6 points per game while shooting only 34 percent from the field. Offensively, the Aggies are led by sophomore guard Courtney Walker (13.5 ppg) and 6-foot-5-inch forward Karla Gilbert (10.5 ppg, 8.7 rpg).
Gilbert anchors a huge frontline for Texas A&M which also includes 6-foot-7 forward Rachel Mitchell and five other Aggies which measure 6-feet or taller.
The Aggies losses this season have come against Penn State, Texas, St. John's and Syracuse.
Tech counters with three players averaging double figures, highlighted by junior forward Whitney Frazier. The El Dorado native averages 16.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game and has recorded four double doubles in her last five games.
Junior guard Chrisstasia Walter is one of the most productive players in Conference USA as she averages 14.4 points, 5.7 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game. Walter ranks fifth nationally in steals per game.
Freshman guard JaQuan Jackson recorded her eighth double digit scoring game of her rookie season in the win over Alabama A&M and enters the Texas A&M contest averaging 13.1 points a game.
Saturday's match-up against the Aggies will be the final non-conference tilt of the year as the Lady Techsters prepare for the start of Conference USA play in early January.
