Lady Techsters Finish Last at the Prairie View A&M Invitational

Feb. 6, 2012

RUSTON - The Lady Techsters (29-34) finished the Prairie View A&M Invitational in 12th-place Sunday afternoon after defeating top-ranked Valparaiso in the first round of match play.

LA Tech entered Sunday's bracket play seeded tenth on a total pin count of 8,115 pins through the first two days of action. The Lady Techsters defeated the number-one ranked Crusaders 4-1 in the best-of-seven series and drew Jackson St. in the second round.

Tech led 3-1 before the Lady Tigers mounted one of the biggest comebacks in the tournament to defeat the Lady Techsters 4-3. With the loss, LA Tech fell to the 11th-place match against Texas Southern, a team Tech defeated in day one 747-670, in the final round.

TSU defeated Tech in four games to finish 11th while the Lady Techsters fell to last place with a 2-11 record throughout the tournament.

Coach Shawn Jackson was frustrated with the inconsistency throughout the tournament.

"We started this tournament off bowling like a top-10 team," said Jackson. "When we let (eighth-ranked) Nebraska come back and defeat us in a roll-off in the first match-up on day two, everything snowballed from there. We were never able to recover and never bowled a complete game."

Junior Kayla Ghersini led all Tech players with an average pinfall of 194.8 throughout the tournament while senior Houston Granger paces the team with an average pinfall of 188.0 on the season.

Tech returns to action on Mar. 16 when they travel to Tennessee to play in the Columbia 300 Music City Classic.
