RUSTON, La. - The Louisiana Tech bowling team completed its latest tournament this past Sunday, as the team posted a 12th place finish at the annual Track Kat Klash hosted by Sam Houston State at Palace Lanes in Houston.
LA Tech opened tournament play last Friday with a 3-3 record, with victories over Alabama State, Prairie View A&M and the hosts from Sam Houston State in baker play, but the Lady Techsters fell short on the opening day of the tournament against Southern, Valparaiso and Vanderbilt.
In individual competition on Saturday, junior Kay Rawls led the way for LA Tech, ranking 26th among more than 120 bowlers with a total pin count of 1,188 in six games and an average of 198.0. Rawls was followed closely behind by Harley DeKeyzer, who had a total pinfall of 1,173, while averaging 195.5 on the day to place 29th.
Fellow Lady Techster Shelby Smith was ranked 40th among all bowlers on the day with a score of 1,117 in six games with an average of 186.2. Senior Nicole Wilson ranked 67th and averaged 169.6 in six games. Jessica McAda rounded things up for the Lady Techsters in individual scoring with a total of 962 and an average of 160.3.
On the final day of the three-day tournament, Louisiana Tech closed out the competition with a 2-3 win-loss mark to finish the Track Kat Klash at 12th.
The Lady Techster bowling squad returns to action Feb. 28 - March 2 at the Central Missouri Invitational in Kansas City, Mo.
