RUSTON, La. - The Louisiana Tech bowling squad ended its first weekend of competition in eighth place among some of the nation's top teams after three days at the Tulane Collegiate Bowling Invitational.
After a strong start on the first day of the invitational with a 3-1 record, the Techsters dropped to eighth place Saturday following a 0-5 team performance, and could never quite recover on the third and final day at Tulane.
Tech started strong Sunday, the last day of the tournament, and steamrolled No. 18 ranked Bethune Cookman in Round 1 by a score of 4-2. The Techsters continued their hot streak into the second round, but No. 17 Prairie View A&M would mound a comeback from 3-1 down to take the match 4-3.
After beating them twice already in the weekend invitational, the Techsters drew Bethune Cookman again in the third round and fell in the match in heartbreaking fashion.
Despite taking a 3-0 lead early in the match, Tech would go on to lose the match 86-70 in a half-game roll-off after tying Cookman 167 in the seventh and final game of the match.
Tech finished the weekend with a 4-8 record after several top-notch performances by both the team and individuals.
