Lady Techsters End Track Kat Klash in 10th Place
Dec. 5, 2011
RUSTON - The Lady Techsters (20-19) finished in 10th place in the Track Kat Klash after losing all three matches in final day of tournament Sunday.
Tech went into day two of the Track Kat Klash with a 3-2 record. After day two, Tech put themselves in a position to finish fourth in the tournament, after defeating 20th-ranked Prairie View A&M 966-819, Alabama St. 930-800 and Long Island University 986-935.
The Lady Techsters went into day three with a 6-4 record in the tournament but did not qualify for the playoffs after losing to Monmouth, Jackson St. and Texas Southern, respectively.
"We made mistakes that we couldn't overcome in day three," said coach Shawn Jackson. "We put ourselves in position to finish fourth and played well the first two days."
Jackson likes the effort the girls are putting in.
"The girls are still playing hard but we have to be able to finish strong to win tournaments. We were up in a few of the games we lost and didn't close it out. It kind of snowballed from there and we couldn't recover."
Senior Houston Granger led all Tech players with a 198 average for the tournament. Kayla Ghersini, freshman Kay Rawls and senior Amy Day averaged 195.2, 194.4 and 190.5 respectively. Day bowled a team-high 233 against Long Island University. Day, Granger, Ghersini, Rawls, Elizabeth Eldredge and Caitlin Craighead each bowled over 200 in at least one match.
Tech finished their 2011 portion of the season with a 20-19 record. The Lady Techsters return to action on Jan. 13, 2012 for the Mid-Winter Classic in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
