RUSTON, La. -
After two months away from competition, the Louisiana Tech bowling team will be back in action on Feb. 5-7 in the Griffins Invitational in St. Louis, Mo.
All but one of the teams competing are ranked in the latest National Tenpins Coaches Association poll including Louisiana Tech (33-13) as they are tied at No. 14 in the country.
"This is the best tournament we've been to all year in terms of caliber of teams competing," head coach Shawn Jackson said. "This is an opportunity for us to move up in the rankings to position ourselves as a possible bid to the NCAA Tournament."
The top eight ranked teams in the final NTCA poll of the season will go on to compete at the NCAA Championships in North Brunswick, N.J. This invitational will help boost the Techsters' ranking as they will take on No. 5 Central Missouri, No. 6 Arkansas State, No. 8 Nebraska, No. 11 Valparaiso, No. 13 Minnesota State-Mankato and No. 14 (tied) Wisconsin-Whitewater. Elmhurst College rounds out the eight teams competing.
"It will be a great test because there will be no breathers for our girls," said Jackson of the stiff competition. They always seem to rise to the challenge. This gives us a shot at nationals for this year and also sets us up for next year by getting this experience."
So far this season, Tech has beaten eight nationally-ranked teams including Central Missouri, Nebraska, Minnesota State-Mankato and Elmhurst College (not currently ranked) in which they will face this weekend.
