Bowlers Kick Off Season with Tech/TSU Invite
RUSTON, La. – After a highly successful 2006-07 season, the Louisiana Tech women’s bowling team will look to continue its winning ways as the 2007-08 season begins with the Tech/TSU Invite this weekend at Holiday Lanes in Shreveport.
The event will feature host schools Louisiana Tech and Texas Southern, as well as teams from Jackson State, Prairie View A&M, Grambling State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Action will begin Friday night with a single match between Tech and UAPB, tentatively scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tournament play begins at 2 p.m. Saturday and resumes at 9 a.m. Sunday.
The Lady Techsters are led by returning sophomore Stephanie Hinz, who averaged a team-high pinfall of 186.4 in 25 games last season, including a school-record 268 on Nov. 11 in a four-way match with Arkansas State, Jackson State and Mississippi Valley State. Hinz is joined by senior Lakeya Smith and junior Toria Miles, as well as freshmen Kristin Porter and Morgan Thompson and walk-on sophomore Latoya Collins.
Tech finished the 2006-07 season with a 31-24 overall record.
“We’re excited to get the season started,” Tech head coach Shawn Jackson said. “Texas Southern is a perennial Top 10 team, and we’re expecting them to be tough. Jackson State is pretty tough too. It will be good to get some of our young freshmen some experience…it’s an exciting time for them.”
