RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech's bowling team is set to travel to the Tulane Collegiate Bowling Invitational Oct. 19-21 in what will be its first tournament of the 2012 season for the squad.
Under the direction of first-year head coach Jerry Miles, just the second head coach in the program's existence, the Lady Techsters will hit the road in hopes of picking up on the success of the program's past.
Two of the last three years has seen the team record winning seasons under former head coach Shawn Jackson, including a program-record 44 wins for the 2009-10 season and the highest national ranking in history at No. 14 in the same season.
The 2010-11 season marked the program's second consecutive winning season ever, with several members of this year's squad paving the way that season.
The Techsters return seven bowlers to this year's squad after two seniors from last year's team, Amy Day and Houston Granger. The five upperclassmen the team returns include seniors Kayla Ghersini, Caitlin Craighead, Elizabeth Eldredge, and juniors Nichole Wilson and Jessica McCusker.
In 2011, the team recorded a 33-47 record with multiple notable wins over top-notch bowling programs, such as No. 8 ranked Sacred Heart and No. 13 Stephen F. Austin.
This weekend the team will kick off the 2012 season against 11 different programs and nationally ranked teams, such as No. 2 Arkansas State and No. 8 Sam Houston State, as well as in-state foes Grambling State and Southern.
