RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech women's bowling squad placed seventh in the first day of the Tulane Collegiate Bowling Invitational after going 3-1 against the tournament's top teams in the competition.
After starting Friday off with a bye and a tough loss to No. 17 ranked Prairie View A&M, the Lady Techsters rebouned to take three straight Bakers contests against Southern, Grambling and No. 18 Bethune Cookman.
In the day's third match for Tech, the team mounted a come-from-behind victory over Southern as the Techsters rallied from 12 pins down in the match's final game to earn their first victory of the 2012 campaign 645-630.
After a thrilling victory against Southern, the Lady Techsters pounded I-20 rival Grambling State 691-512 to notch its second victory of the first day.
The closest of margins came in the fifth and final match for the team, after knocking off the No. 18 team Bethune Cookman 692-684 to end day 1 on a high note.
Senior Caitlin Craighead led all Techsters in mark conversions with 80 percent, followed closely by senior Kayla Ghersini (77.5 percent), junior Jessica McCusker (70.6 percent) and sophomore Kay Rawls (69.4 percent).
Tech will continue the Invitational today as they will battle yet another in-state foe in Tulane. Individual and team competition will continue on Day 2 and 3 of the Tulane tournament.
