RUSTON - Coming off a school record 16 straight wins to win the 2011 Southern Invitational, the Louisiana Tech bowling team (14-12) travels to Huntsville, Texas to compete in the Track Kat Klash Dec. 2-4.
Louisiana Tech will be one of 14 teams competing in the Track Kat Klash. There will be four teams ranked in the top 10 and two in the top 20. Among teams playing are second-ranked Vanderbilt, fifth-ranked Nebraska, sixth-ranked Arkansas State, host and seventh-ranked Sam Houston St., 13th-ranked Stephen F. Austin and 20th-ranked Prairie View A&M.
The Lady Techsters defeated Prairie View and Stephen F. Austin in baker system matches in the Greater Ozark Invitational.
"We're looking forward to starting our first winter tournament," coach Shawn Jackson said. "It will be the toughest tournament we've been to so far this year, with six nationally-ranked teams competing. The non-ranked teams are on the cusp of becoming nationally-ranked so it'll be a good challenge for us to see where we stack up against some of the best teams in the nation."
Jackson was pleased with Tech's fall schedule finish.
"We finished the fall schedule pretty well so hopefully we can have a carryover from that," Jackson said. "This is an opportunity for us to continue to improve. We'll get better as the season goes on, especially because we have a few young girls who are still learning what collegiate bowling is all about. "
Senior Houston Granger received all-Southern Classic honors for the Lady Techsters after recording a 182 average during the three-day event.
