Tech Track Heads South For LSU Relays
BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Louisiana Tech track and field squad will return to action this weekend or the LSU Relays on the campus of Louisiana State University Friday and Saturday.
“This is a real high quality meet we’re looking to do well in,” Tech head track and field coach Gary Stanley said. “We’re going to run our usuals in the relays, and hopefully, we’ll compete well and put up some good marks.”
Tech competed well at the Louisiana Classics last weekend at UL-Lafayette and saw senior Shaterika Allen hit a regional qualifying mark in the discus with a throw of 47 feet, 3.50 inches.
The relay teams also ran to first and second place finishes in the 4x400 relay with mixed up teams. Stanley said the teams will revert back to form for this weekend.
“We got a chance to see kids run in different events last weekend, and we went one and two in the 4x400 with two different teams,” Stanley said. “All in all, I was pleased with the weekend.”
This will be the last meet before Tech hosts its annual Jim Mize Tech Twilight meet March 28.
“We’re trying to get geared up for our home meet,” Stanley said. “The running will start at 5 p.m., and we’re looking for a great meet.”
