LOUISVILLE, Ky.-- The Louisiana Tech track and field team will send 19 student-athletes (including two relay squads) to the University of Louisville for the NCAA Mideast Regional Meet Friday, May 29, where they will compete against some of the nation's top talent for a spot to compete in the National Meet in June.

There will be four Regional Meets held over the weekend in which the top five finishers (top three relays) from each event will qualify and receive an invitation to compete in the NCAA Nation Championship Meet.

"We are very excited to have such a large number of contestants competing in this year's regionals," Tech head coach Gary Stanley said. "Hopefully we'll have a good number qualify for the national championship as well. Having 19 athletes qualify is a big accomplishment for our school with us competing in what I think is the toughest region in the country."

The Lady Techsters will head into regionals fresh off their fifth straight WAC Outdoor Championship while the men are coming off of a third place finish in the conference respectively.

While all athletes will be looking to finish in the top five of their specialty event this weekend, there is still a chance that an athlete can earn a trip to the NCAA Championships even if he or she fails to qualify automatically in regional competition.

The NCAA will issue an additional four at-large bids to individuals and relay teams placing within the top 12 at the regional meet based on their position on the national descending order list.

The Lady Techsters have two relay teams that will head into the regional ranked in the top 15. The women's 4X100 relay team's time of 44.66 seconds currently ranks 14th in the nation while the Techsters' 4X400 team's time of 3:35.14 ranks 10th in the nation.

Also ranking in the top ten in the nation is thrower Nadia Alexander whose shot put throw of 54' 8.75" currently ranks her seventh in the nation.
