Tech Track to Take Eight to Nationals

June 3, 2008

RUSTON -- The national list is up, and Louisiana Tech's nationally renowned track and field squad will take eight athletes back to Des Moines, Iowa; this time for the 2008 NCAA National meet June 11.

Juniors Mike Coleman (200, 4x100), Nadia Alexander (shot), Phelecia Reynolds (discus), sophomore Al Fullwood (4x100), and freshmen Larry Jones (javelin), Josh Harvey (4x100) and Terry Carter (4x100) all qualified to run in the national meet. Senior Jarrith Jones will go as an alternate.

"I think it's an honor for not only our individuals but also for the school to have these athletes at the national meet," Tech head coach Gary Stanley said. "Lots of schools don't have any or maybe just one or two. To get eight is really a remarkable year."

Last weekend, the men's 4x100 team of local athletes in Coleman from Ruston, La., Fullwood and Harvey from Shreveport, La., along with Carter from West Monroe, La., ran a blazing-fast 39.66 second-time to finish second overall at the Mideast Regionals in Fayetteville, Ark. Alexander took fourth in the women's shot with a throw of 54 feet, 4.50 inches.

Friday, Jones threw 219-4 to advance to nationals with a fourth-place finish while breaking Tech's school record (new rule) in the javelin. Reynolds will also compete in the national meet after placing fifth in the discus at 169-03.
