FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The selections have been made, and Louisiana Tech will be sending eight athletes to the 2009 NCAA National Championship meet to be held in Fayetteville, Ark., beginning Wednesday, June 10.

"We are obviously very thrilled to be sending eight athletes to the national meet," Tech head track and field coach Gary Stanley said. "These kids have worked hard all season long to get to this point, and we're anxious to see what happens."

Representing the red and blue will be the 4x400 relay squad of senior El Charrita Reynolds along with juniors Kamelia Stroy and Lashonda Worthy and sophomore Monique Wright. Sophomore Shante Benion and freshman Stacia Hanneman will serve as alternates for the relay team.

Junior Antoinette Cobb will compete in the 100-hurdles, while senior Nadia Alexander goes in the shot put. Both Wright and Stroy will also be competing in the women's 400.

Last week in the 2009 Mid East Regionals, LA Tech finished tied for 12th overall out of 84 teams. Senior Nadia Alexander had Tech's highest finish at third place in the women's shot at 53 feet, 7.75 inches while the women's 4x400 team finished sixth overall at 3 minutes, 34.77 seconds.

All were members of the indoor and outdoor teams that won WAC Championships this past season.
