Position:
Volunteer Coach

Freddie Acosta begins his fourth season as a volunteer coach of the Louisiana Tech women's soccer team. In his free time, he assists with practices and games and gives insight to head coach Kevin Sherry and the coaching staff.

"Freddie is a fantastic link between us and our soccer community," Sherry said. "Our players recognize the fact that he loves Tech soccer and that makes them feel important. He is definitely an asset to our program."

Acosta has been an integral part of the local soccer scene in Ruston for many years as he has more than 30 years of playing and coaching experience.

"I am thankful for the opportunity Coach Sherry has given me," Acosta said. "I am proud to be a part of and have an influence in the Lady Techster soccer program. After having a successful season last year, I am even more excited about working with our student-athletes this fall."

A native of El Salvador, Acosta attended a Jesuit all-boys school with two soccer coaches from Chile. Physical education time was split between soccer, swimming and basketball.

This was where soccer became Acosta's first passion, and he brings to the program that passion by which soccer players and coaches are known to possess.

He has worked with the boys' and girls' soccer teams at Ruston High School and currently serves as head coach of a Division 1 boys' club team and the Ruston Junior High boys' team.

His wife, Patricia, his daughters, Nali and Ceci, and his son, Fredie, have all been involved in soccer at some level.
