Freddie Acosta begins his sixth season as a volunteer coach of the Louisiana Tech women's soccer team. In his free time, he assists with practices and games and gives insight to head coach Kevin Sherry and the coaching staff.
"Freddie is a fantastic link between us and our soccer community," Sherry said. "Our players recognize the fact that he loves Tech soccer and that makes them feel important. He is definitely an asset to our program."
Acosta has been an integral part of the local soccer scene in Ruston for many years as he has more than 30 years of playing and coaching experience.
A native of El Salvador, Acosta attended a Jesuit all-boys school with two soccer coaches from Chile. This was where soccer became Acosta's first passion, and he brings to the program that passion by which soccer players and coaches are known to possess.
He has worked with the boys and girls soccer teams at Ruston High School and currently serves as head coach of a Division 1 boys club team and the Ruston Junior High boys team.
His wife, Patricia, his daughters, Nali and Ceci, and his son, Fredie, have all been involved in soccer at some level.
