RUSTON - Four Lady Techsters made the most of their opportunities on Tuesday night by scoring their first career goals which aided in Louisiana Tech's 8-0 victory over Louisiana College at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.

This was the third match for LA Tech (2-0-1) in five days so resting bodies and giving quality playing time to those who have had limited minutes so far was a top priority for head coach Kevin Sherry.

"It was a good run out for the players who haven't had a lot of minutes so far this year," said Sherry. "We were able to rest the players who have been playing a lot of minutes having played two games this past weekend and with two coming up.

"I'm happy for the girls who were able to get their first goal and to add to their memories here at Tech."

Sherry was even more appreciative of Louisiana College who filled in an open spot in the schedule that was unexpectedly created during the summer.

"Louisiana College came in at the last minute to fill a game that was left," said Sherry. "We didn't want to lose a home game and they helped us which we are very thankful for."

The first goal of the night came in the third minute off the foot of Brittany Beddow who fired a shot into the box that ricocheted off of two LC defenders to sneak into the net. This proved to be the game winner.

Another upperclassman, Taylor Dennis, scored four minutes later after receiving a through ball from Anne Armstrong. Dennis then netted her second goal of the season by delivering the ball under a diving keeper.

After the Techsters went up 3-0 in the 31st minute on a score from senior Abby Sentz, it was the newcomers who had their moments the rest of the way.

Redshirt freshman Chelsea Billups netted her first goal off a deflection in the 38th minute. Then one minute later freshman Haley Laque's shot from 25 yards out buried into the near corner.

LA Tech went into halftime with a 6-0 lead after sophomore Jessica Harmon beat the keeper in the bottom right corner.

Sophomores Emily Griffin and Annabel Prior provided the two goals in the second half. Freshman Olivia Millington notched two assists on the night.

Redshirt freshman Faith Washington saw her career action in goal as a Techster and got the win.

Next up for LA Tech is a trip to Charleston, Ill. to participate in the EIU Tournament. The Techsters will face Lewis University on Friday at 4 p.m. followed by the host team Eastern Illinois on Sunday at 1 p.m.
