ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Louisiana Tech women’s soccer team wasted little time scoring on Sunday afternoon, netting three goals in the first 15 minutes in route to a 5-1 victory over Mississippi Valley State at the MVSU Soccer Field.

Veterans Kailee Hervey and Mylene Roy-Ouellet scored the first two goals for LA Tech (3-1-1). The remaining three came from a trio of freshmen – Amber Posthauer, Lorena Lopez and Elizabeth Doll – for their first career goals.

“We played a different style of game today which is good experience if we ever have to use it again,” head coach Kevin Sherry said. You are always going to be happy when you win on the road and have no injuries. We played mostly bench players today and some performed well and forced their way into our thoughts for future games.”

The Lady Techsters have struggled this season in finishing in their attacking third. It took only three minutes deep into the match against MVSU (1-2) for them to strike as senior Monica Gebler crossed it from the right to Hervey who controlled it and found the back of the net.

It was the striker’s 12th career goal and the first in almost two years after having to miss all of last season with a knee injury.

LA Tech made it 2-0 in the 14th minute when junior Lisanne Kleygrewe passed it from the midfield over the top to Roy-Ouellet who ran on it and chipped it by the keeper for her second goal of the year.

One minute later and the Lady Techsters struck again. It was a double assist as sophomore Jaelyn Peeples had the long ball to fellow sophomore Jenna Dages who flicked it to Posthauer. The freshman ran on it and beat the keeper 1v1.

Five minutes into the second period, Posthauer got pushed inside the box awarding LA Tech a penalty kick. Lopez stepped up and converted the PK to make it a 4-0 lead.

The Devilettes got on the scoreboard in the 81st minute, but the Lady Techsters countered with one more goal in the 84th minute when sophomore Kristine Emrick delivered a deep free kick from the right to the far post that was headed in by Doll.

LA Tech outshot Mississippi Valley State, 17-6, with nine shots coming on goal. Eleven players had shot attempts, led by freshman Chesna Castro with three. Sophomore Carlotta Cartelli, making her first start in net this season, registered three saves in the win.

The Lady Techsters will have a week off before they return to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 3 versus I-20 foe ULM. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Monroe.
