PINEVILLE, La. - With hurricane Isaac set to make landfall later tonight, Louisiana Tech snuck in a match this evening versus Louisiana College and came away with an 11-0 win.
The game was moved up two separate times in an effort to make-up the cancellation of the season opener against Murray State.
For head coach Kevin Sherry, today was much more about getting playing time for his young roster rather than the notch in the win column.
"I'm appreciative of [Louisiana College head coach] Bruce Deaton for keeping this game on," said Sherry. "It was just what we were looking for, an opportunity for players who haven't played a lot of minutes to play."
Later on in the first period, Lethbridge drilled a shot that was saved by the opposing goalkeeper, but Brittany Beddow cleaned up the rebound and drove it into the net to make it 2-0.
Brennan added her second goal of the day and third on the season in the 25th minute pushing the lead to 3-0. Sherry then emptied the bench to give his entire team plenty of game action.
Taylor Douglas, Lauren Long, Erica Stewart, Samantha Fabian, Rosie Lethbridge and Heather Fitzgerald each added goals on the contest. Fitzgerald, a junior midfielder from Ponchatoula, La., would add two more goals on the evening for the hat trick, tying the record for most goals in a single game with seven previous Techsters.
Reigning WAC Goalkeeper of the Week Caitlin Updyke was credited with the shutout, her third on the season.
Next up for Tech is participation in the Trojan Classic in Troy, Ala. They will face host school Troy on Friday at 3 p.m. and Jacksonville State on Sunday at 3 p.m.
