RUSTON, La. -- The Louisiana Tech women's soccer team faced a big test in Centenary on Friday and passed it convincingly as they defeated the Ladies 7-1 in front of 342 fans at a rainy Lady Techster Soccer Field.

With the win, the team improves its record to a perfect 6-0-0 on the season. Centenary received their first loss of the year and are now 5-1-0.

"Tonight's starting lineup consisted of mostly freshmen and sophomores," Tech head coach Kevin Sherry said. "I knew Centenary was a hard, aggressive team. I thought we may have been a bit young compared to them, but we managed to weather the storm. We played the kind of soccer we wanted to play and we received results out of it. This win is going to give us so much confidence moving forward.

"I was a little upset that we lost concentration at the end since we gave up that one goal. We need to learn from that. It was a fantastic win and a great performance. We need to use this win as a platform to keep going forward. We can't stop now."

LA Tech took a commanding 2-0 lead within the first 11 minutes of the match. Lindsay Brough scored her first collegiate goal 18 yards out to give her team a one-goal advantage. Co-captain Kat McCullough nearly totaled her first goal of the season, but her shot hit off the post. Fortunately for Tech, Olivia Lukasewich fielded the rebound and blasted it in for her first of two goals on the night.

"We stuck to what we planned for tonight's game," Brough said. "We finished our chances when we had them and everyone performed really well. I was excited I could get my first goal, but most importantly I'm glad I could contribute to a win."

After battling rain, Tech added two more goals before halftime. Co-captain Kiva Gresham served a ball to Mo Rockwell 15 yards out, who kicked it past the goalkeeper for her second goal of the season.

Once again, the Lady Techsters capitalized on their corner kick opportunities. This time, Mal Feece was the beneficiary of a Scotti Culton serve as Feece headed the ball into the net for a four-goal lead in the 41st minute.

Lukasewich added her second goal of the night just over one minute into the second half on a pass by Culton. Tech's sixth goal of the evening came by the foot of Brooke Lanie as she scored from 20 yards out to give her team a 6-0 lead.

Before Centenary recorded its only goal of the game in the 86th minute, Chelsea White added her first goal of the season on an assist by Brittany Coffinbargar.

Tech outshot Centenary 29-7 and also earned the corner kick battle 9-3.

The Lady Techsters will return to the pitch Sunday, Sept. 13 as they will host Delta State at 3 p.m. at the Lady Techster Soccer Field. For complete coverage of Lady Techster Soccer, please visit the official home of LA Tech Athletics at www.LATechSports.com.
