SAN MARCOS, Texas – In a hard fought contest, the Louisiana Tech soccer team fell to future conference opponent Texas State Friday night 1-0 in overtime at Bobcat Soccer Complex.
“They were an obviously bigger team and all we could realistically hope for was to be competitive which we were,” said head coach Kevin Sherry. “It all came down to one mistake and we made it.”
The loss drops the Lady Techsters to 5-2-3 on the season while the Bobcats improving to 3-4-0.
In the 94th minute, Kendell Webber scored the game's lone goal when she tapped in a loose ball off a free kick with an assist credited to Kelsey Bernard.
Tech was held to a season-low seven shots and was outshot for the first time this season, 10-7. Sophomore Emily Brennan (Plano, Texas) led the team with two shots while seniors Rachel King (O’Fallon, Mo.) and Olivia Lukasewich (Woodbridge, Ontario) were the only Lady Techsters to put a shot on goal with one apiece.
Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Updyke (Broomfield, Colo.) stopped four shots in her tenth start of the season.
Texas State's Sydney Curry had a game-high three shots, all of them on goal, and goalkeeper Lauren Frazier stopped two shots.
Continuing their weekend in Texas, the Lady Techsters play at Sam Houston State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
