RUSTON - The Louisiana Tech soccer team pitched their third straight shutout in a 5-0 victory over Southern on Sunday evening at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.

A starting XI made up of all freshmen for LA Tech (5-4-1) overpowered SU (1-6-1) in what was the final nonconference match of the season for the Lady Techsters.

"We had lots of opportunities," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "Today was a perfect chance for us to work at our technique. Hopefully this gives [the freshmen] more experience and more repetition of the right technique, and hopefully we will keep improving it."

The match was scoreless 16 minutes in until sophomore Erica Stewart entered to give LA Tech its first goal of the day in the 21st minute. It was Stewart's first goal of the season as Kathryn Sloan delivered a cross into the penalty box which was chipped by Kailee Hervey directly to Stewart who had the open net.

LA Tech tacked on one more goal in the first period off the foot of Nicole Jaquemet in the 38th minute, her first of the season as well. Hannah Dauzat pushed a through ball between two Southern defenders and Jaquemet beat the keeper to the left corner.

At halftime, the Techsters held a 14-0 shot advantage, but the pressure would continue through the second period as they tallied three more goals.

Jaquemet scored her second goal in the 51st minute after goalkeeper Kylee Seto kicked a long ball to Taylor Douglas at midfield who pooched a long ball over Southern's backline. Jaquemet then beat the keeper one-on-one.

Three minutes later, Sloan notched her team-leading fifth goal of the season when she dribbled around a defender in the box and knocked the ball into the left corner to give LA Tech a 4-0 advantage.

The final goal came in the 81st minute on Stewart's second netter of the day. Brittany Beddow took a short touch off a corner kick to Stewart who hit the upper right corner from 20 yards out.

The LA Tech backline did not allow a single shot by Southern. Seto earned the shutout win in goal.

Coming off a seven-match road swing, the Lady Techsters hit the road again as they begin Conference USA action with 7 p.m. kick at Tulsa on Friday, Sept. 27.
