RENO, Nev. – After scoring two goals in the first 12 minutes, the Louisiana Tech soccer team was stunned by Nevada 3-2 in overtime Saturday night at Mackay Stadium.

“Obviously it was a tough loss to take but everyone gave their best and we have to pick ourselves up and go again,” said head coach Kevin Sherry.

The loss drops the Lady Techsters to 8-3-4 overall and 1-1 in the Western Athletic Conference while the Wolf Pack improve to 3-11 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.

In the seventh minute junior Finola Corley (Telford, England) scored the first goal of the game off a broken play on a corner kick. The score was her second of the year.

Junior Mo Rockwell (Salt Lake City, Utah) headed the ball into the top-right corner of the net off a set piece from senior Scotti Culton (Waterloo, Ill.) in the 12th minute to give the Lady Techsters a 2-0 advantage.

The goal was Rockwell’s second of the year and with the assist was Culton’s 21st of her career, breaking a tie with former teammate Kiva Gresham to become the program’s all-time assist leader.

Nevada scored their first goal late in the 65th minute when Aleina Dominguez sent a cross into the box that was headed in by Chrisalyn Fonte. The Wolf Pack tied the game at 2-2 in the 69th minute when Chivon Crump found the back of the goal from 10 yards out.

In the 95th minute, Fonte headed in her second goal of the game off a throw-in from Danielle Green to complete Nevada’s comeback.

Tech was outshot 12-4 with two shots in the first and second half apiece. Culton lead the team with two shots with one being on goal.

Sophomore Caitlin Updyke (Broomfield, Colo.) started in goal and stopped four shots while surrendering a season-high three goals.


 

 

Nevada was lead offensively be Fonte with five shots, three of them on goal. Dana Moreno started in net, giving up two goals and stopping a shot.

The Lady Techsters return to action Sunday afternoon at Utah State with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m. Central Time.
