LOGAN, Utah – The Louisiana Tech soccer team fell 3-1 to Western Athletic Conference foe Utah State on Sunday afternoon at Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field to remain winless all-time in the Beehive State.

“The difference in the game was how physical they were compared to us,” said head coach Kevin Sherry. “I am proud of how the team competed better in the second half and this is how it should be from here on out.”

The defeat drops the Lady Techsters to 8-4-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play while the Aggies improve to 10-4-1 and 2-1 in the WAC.

USU scored their first goal late in the sixth minute when Mari Miyashiro sent a shot into the back left corner of the net from 18 yards out off a pass from Kendra Pemberton.

In the 16th minute, Pemberton scored when her shot deflected off a Tech defender from six yards out to give the Aggies a 2-0 advantage.

Pemberton scored her second goal of the game off a cross from Shantel Flanary from six yards out in the 51st minute and increase the lead to three.

After a foul by an Aggies defender in the goal box, senior Scotti Culton (Waterloo, Ill.) put the penalty kick home to cut the score to 3-1. The goal was her third of the season and moved her into fifth place on the career list.

Tech was outshot 15-9 with Culton pacing the team with three shots. Senior Rachel King (O’Fallon, Mo.) and sophomore Taylor Dennis (Albuquerque, N.M.) each took two shots apiece.

Sophomore Caitlin Updyke (Broomfield, Colo.) started in goal and stopped five shots before being replaced by senior Cat Buchanan (Shawnee, Kan.) in the 57th minute. Buchanan saved the only shot that was on goal she faced from USU.

Pemberton paced the Aggies with five shots and Jennifer Flynn and Flanary took three shots apiece. Molli Merrill started in goal, playing 69 minutes until Ashlyn Mulford was substituted for her and allowed one goal and stopped one shot on goal.
